New Year, New Challenge!

No More ExcusesHappy 2014!

Are you ready to start another challenge?

A few things to keep in mind:

Our weeks start on Wednesday {today!} and end on Tuesday. Find a way to track your miles that works for you. Some people use Daily Mile, some people use good ol’ pen & paper, some people use an app on their phone. Find what works for you and stick with it.

Check the blog on Tuesday so you can report your miles. If you are worried you wont remember, feel free to subscribe via email. It will email you any posts on the evening they go up. It’s over there -----> on the sidebar.

Remember:

  • No rounding up! Push yourself and go just a bit farther. If you walk 3.25 miles, it counts as 3 miles.
  • 1 mile walking or running = 1 mile.
  • 15 minutes of yoga, biking, swimming, weights = 1 mile.

Will you do me a favor?

Will you tell me about your fitness goals for 2014? Leave a comment and let me know. We’ll be able to encourage each other if we know what your goal is. If you are going to work on something specific for this challenge, let me know that too. If you are going for something other than 100 miles, please leave a comment telling me that too.

For 2014, I want to run (jog) a 5k. I’ve never been a runner, but I feel like there might be a runner hiding inside of me and I am determined to find her. I will also be participating in the Portland to Coast Relay in August. It’s 130-ish mile relay walk from Portland, OR to Seaside, OR and every person on the team walks about 10-12 miles. I want to do 13-minute miles for my legs.

For this challenge, I want to get back to walking 5 miles in 1 hour and 15 minutes with out it feeling too hard. I’ve been too lazy the last month and a half so it might take some time. After that, I plan to add some jogging in and then some speed work for walking.

Most of all: Have fun with this challenge!

Again?

Goal To Reach

{source}

I have two fitness goals for 2014:

Run a 5K & 13 Minute Miles for my Portland to Coast legs

What are your goals for 2014?

Are you interested in doing another round of 100 Miles in 3 Months?

Here’s how it works:

  • Weeks will run from Wednesdays to Tuesday.
  • This round will start on Wednesday, January 1, and end on Monday, March 31.
  • A call for miles will go up every Tuesday where you will leave a comment with your miles for the week.
  • Your goal can be anything : 100 miles in the three months is pretty standard, but you can work up to that if need be and make your goal 50 miles. Or, you can reach even farther and make your goal 300 miles.
  • All walking and running miles count one for one. So, you walk 3 miles, you count it as 3 miles. No rounding up though – if you walk 3.75 miles it only counts as 3 – so push yourself a little farther so you can count it as 4.
  • All other exercise (yoga, biking, weights, swimming, etc.) counts 1 mile per 15 minutes. So a half hour video of step aerobics counts as 2 miles.

The more the merrier – invite your friends to participate! Challenge your friends. Leave me a comment if you think you might be interested. I’m hoping that some of you will want to do this again and push me to reach my goals. :)

2013 Fitness Goals

I can hardly believe that 2013 is already upon us. I swear that the school year just started.

I am definitely a lists girl and I spend a lot of time making list of things that I want to do and improve on so I am all over resolutions come January. It helps that my birthday is in June so I can reevaluate then and see how I am coming.

A lot of people poke fun at New Year's Resolutions and you hear a lot of jokes about people failing on January 2 and giving up. I don't make resolutions like this. I make a goal for myself and I work on it. Sometimes it is easier than other times, but I don't give up on it just because I had a bad day. I keep trying

With the new year, and a new challenge starting, I am thinking about what I want to do this year fitness wise.

I've come up with a few and thought that I would share. I would love to hear what your goals for the 2013 year are as well.

1) Beat my time in the 6.7 mile walk my town does each May. I have done this walk every year since we moved to Oregon. It's a beautiful course and I love it. It challenges me though. 6.7 miles is far (I don't know how people walk [much less run] 13.1 or 26.2 miles) and I have to be preparing to be ready for it. My time in 2012 was 1 hour 40 minutes. I think I can beat that.

2) I want to run a 5k. And I want to run the whole thing. To do this I need to find one that is on a Saturday and isn't too far away. And I need to start running.

3) This year will be my fifth year doing the Portland to Coast relay. Last year, I was in probably the best shape of all four years. I had two legs to do and the first, I felt like I did a good job. The second one was long and hard and I want to do it again, but do it better. I want to not feel like dying at the end of it.

One reason I love this challenge is that it gets me to go a little farther and it keeps me moving because I know I have to report. I am excited to head towards my goals and be with you as you head to yours.

So, share with us. What are you 2013 Fitness Goals?
