Final Call for Miles

Hey all! It's the final call for miles for this challenge. Let me know your miles for this week (+ 2 days). And, let me say: Well done! Those of you still reporting did not give up and I think that is fabulous. Congrats on making it to the end!

This is the 8th challenge that I have hosted here. Thank you for participating. Thank you for checking in. Thank you for the encouragement + support. Numbers have dwindled to the point that only two or three of us are participating. As we head in to the season when numbers typically decrease, I am going to take a break from hosting another challenge. I may bring it back at the start of the year, but I'm not sure.

I want you to continue to GIVE IT YOUR ALL, and go after those fitness goals that you have. You can do it!

Call for Miles | Week 12

One week left in our challenge! Hard to believe that the end of September is so close. I probably say that at the end of every challenge. Ha! How did it go for you this round? What do you need to do this week to reach your goal?

Give me your miles count for this week (our week ended today - Sunday), and good luck this week! Also, be sure to check your totals on the sidebar.

Call for Miles | Week 10

Be Proud Every Step

Today is the end of week 10. Just 3 1/2 weeks of this round left. Hard to believe that we are marching on this close to October and the holidays that follow. How is it going for you this round? Are you on track to meet your goal? Any adjustments need to be made?

I've done pretty well this round until the last week and a half or so. I should meet my goal, but only if I get back to working out. I have about 40 minutes between when my big kids go to school and when my youngest needs to get out of bed, so my plan is to walk or do step aerobics during the time. Wish me luck!

Leave a comment with your miles for this past week and good luck this week!

Call for Miles | Week 8

Photo: Do it!

Sorry for the delay in posting. I got home from a 129-mile relay at about 11:45pm Saturday night. We got about two hours of sleep during the event, and I pretty much sat on the couch all day Sunday. :) Big congrats go out to Ruth who did Portland to Coast with us for the first time. This was my sixth year, and I had a blast.

How was your workout week? Our week ended on Sunday. Leave a comment with your miles, and I'll get them updated. Good luck this week!

Call for Miles | Week 7

Yesterday was the end of week 7. We are a bit more than halfway through this challenge. Are you a bit more than halfway to your goal? What can you do to get there?

Leave a comment with your miles, and I'll get them tallied up on the sidebar. Good luck this week!

Hey! Sorry for the delay in this week's call for miles. I got caught up in friends moving, summer winding down and parents visiting. I hope you are all doing well.  Leave a comment with your miles (remember, our week ended yesterday [two days ago, by the time most of you read this]) and good luck this week!

Oh, and please, double-check my math! It's not my strong suit. :) You could also share the plan you have in place to reach your goal.

Wow! In to August already. Hard to believe!

Today is the end of another week. How did it go? Are you getting closer to your goal? This week I tried out swimming as exercise -- it's hard! but, I enjoyed it.

Call for Miles | Week 1

Start by doing what is necessary ... and soon you'll be doing the impossible.

Today is Sunday so today is the last day of week 1. So, count up your miles (remember - walking and running count mile for mile [no half miles!], everything else is 15 minutes to a mile) and leave a comment with your miles. Share any struggles or triumphs as well.

Good luck in week two!

New Challenge | July - September

Everyone Starts Somewhere | This pin doesn't go anywhere, but I like the idea of this illustration.
It’s time for another round!

This quarter, our challenge will run from today (July 1) to Tuesday, September 30.

Here’s how it works:
1) Make a goal. Your goal anything you want – Mine is the standard 100 miles, but others choose to go for more, and it’s okay to go for less. Make it something that is do-able for you!

2) Log your miles. Everyday for the next three months, log your miles. Keep track in your planner, on your phone, on dailymile or in your head. Just remember:
  • If you walk or run, count it mile for mile.
  • If you bike, swim, do yoga or lift weights (or whatever else), count 15 minutes for 1 mile.

3) Check in. Every Sunday, I’ll post a call for miles. Leave a comment with how many you did. Also, share your goals for the coming week, and difficulties or successes that you have. We’re a community to support and cheer you on, but we can’t if we don’t know what is happening with you.

It’s fairly easy, and you’ll feel great when you’ve accomplished your goal. You can do it!

Feel free to comment or email me if you have any questions.

Final Call April-June

Motivation :)

Today is the last day of June. {Eek! How did that happen already?!} How did you do this challenge? Did you make your goal? What did you struggle with? What did you do really well?

I started really strong, and then really fizzled. Not sure what happened exactly. I did not make my goal. I lost my motivation in the midst of stressful/busy times. I did find a walking buddy and we did well for several weeks. We are planning to be back on track this week and having someone waiting for me is very motivating.

I think I'd like to do another challenge. Is anyone interested? Will you share this challenge with your friends? Let me know in the comments, and of course, leave your miles there too!

Call for Miles | Weeks 8 & 9

It's worth it.

Sorry that I didn't post last week. We went camping for the long weekend, and I forgot about posting until the middle of the week. At that point, I figured I may as well wait and do two weeks in one.

I've really struggled the last couple of weeks, so I've decided I need to start chanting this in my mind. It is not easy, but it is worth it. It's not easy, but it is worth it.

Leave me a comment with you miles for the last two weeks. Four more weeks to reach our goals! Good luck everyone!

Call For Miles | Week 7

Absolutely!

How was your week? Mine was not so good. It was super busy and I did not plan in any time to exercise, so that meant, I didn't exercise. I have another busy week (something just about every night of the week), but I am planning to exercise in the morning instead of the evening which is how I normally do things.

Leave a comment with your miles from last week, and go get 'em this week! Please check your miles on the sidebar, and make sure I'm keeping up with your reports. :)

Call for Miles | Week 6

Happy Mother's Day, friends! I hope everyone has a lovely day!

How was your week? I had a triumph - it was my town's annual 6.7-mile race yesterday and I had a million reasons to not participate, but one big reason to participate. I think I've mentioned before that in August for the Portland to Coast relay, I am doing a nearly 8-mile leg. I needed to participate in yesterday race to prove to myself that 8-miles isn't totally unrealistic.

I expected it to take me just under two hours to walk the 6.7 miles, but I was able to finish in 1 hour, 44 minutes. I was exhausted all day, and was ready to be done at the end, but I did it. And I have a few months to prepare to walk 8-miles about fifteen hours after walking 5-miles.

Leave me a comment with your miles, struggles and triumphs. Good luck this week!

7-Minute Work Out

Stacy got a copy of this workout at a health screening and thought we might enjoy it. It looks like a killer work-out, and from what I read, the seven minutes should not be pleasant.

To make it count for a mile, you could do it twice. Or you could add 7-8 minutes of yoga/stretching to the end of it. Or, you could be super tough and do everything for one minute instead of 30 seconds. Let us know if you try it!

Happy sweating!

Call for Miles | Week 5

It's been a full month of this challenge. How's it going? Are you a third of the way to your goal? Do you need to change anything to reach your goal?

I had a good week...nothing like the pressure of a impending race to get you moving. I'm participating in my town's annual 6.7 mile walk this week so I made sure to get out walking. A friend also convinced me to get to the gym for a tough water aerobics class.

How was your week? Any frustrations? Any successes? Leave a comment with your miles, and go get 'em this week! Happy sweating!

Happy Easter!

I saw this on the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans FB page, and had to share.

What are you weekend goals? How are going to keep from eating too much of the kid’s Easter candy?

My weekend plans include a long walk as part of training for a race in three weeks. Sunday will be a rest day in my training schedule. As far as the Easter candy…I plan to chew a lot of gum!

Strive for progress, not perfection

It’s the end of week two. How was your week?

I started strong, but kind of fizzled. We had a super-busy week. Luckily, this week shouldn’t be as busy and my walking partner is back in town after a week in Florida. It’s amazing how motivating a friend is. :)

Leave me a comment with your miles for the week. Go get em this week!

Reasons

{source}

A few years ago I was at a women’s meeting for my church and we had a doctor there to answer any questions that we had. One thing he said that really stuck with me was this:

“Don’t exercise to lose weight. Because, then if it doesn’t work, you will quit. Exercise to be healthy.”

Of course, I hope to lose weight when I exercise, but I continue to exercise because I know how much better I feel when I exercise. I have more energy, my mind is clearer, the mood is happier and I have more self-control.

Take a look at this list of 50 reasons, and tell me: Which are your top 5?

Mine are #’s: 5, 7, 17, 24 & 34.

I had no idea until I read about it on the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans website. It is sponsored by the American Heart Association and they are encouraging everyone to walk for 30 minutes on Wednesday, April 2 (TODAY!).

You can take the pledge here. And, of course, be sure to log your miles!

Call for Miles | Final Call

{source}

Another challenge has come and gone.

Today (Monday) marks the final day of our January-March 2014 Challenge. Only a few of us made it to the end. To you, I say: well done. I’m so impressed and so inspired by each of you as you diligently report your miles and consistently work hard.

Leave me a comment with your miles for the final week, and stay tuned for another challenge coming tomorrow.

Also, let me know if there is anything you would like to see here. Links to work-out articles? Recipes? Personal stories? Fitness product recommendations?

If you have any ideas of how to get a few more people involved, let me know that too. I think a few more people playing along would be great fun.

Come Monday, I’ll post a final call for miles. The next round will begin on Tuesday.

Call for Miles | Week 9

{source}

This probably isn’t all that inspiring but it made me laugh.

Because it’s true. I worked hard at eating right this week and I got some exercise so I was quite disappointed when the scale went up rather than down. No spectacular results for me but I’m sure that if I stick with it, I’ll get what I’m hoping for. :)

How was your week? I did a fitness class that just about killed me, and a couple of good walks. It was nice to get out walking and I’m pleased that I haven’t lost my speed since August.

Call for Miles | Week 7

Motivational Fitness Quotes

Yesterday (Tuesday) marked the end of week 7. How are you doing on this challenge? It’s racing by for me and I can’t really believe that we have ten days or so until March.

This week, we laid my husband’s brother to rest. He was far too young – only 34 – and over the last 72-hours I’ve found myself thinking about how I take my body for granted and possibly don’t do everything I can to take care of it. I don’t want to be buried far too soon because I didn’t take care of myself.

Leave a comment with you miles, and good luck this week. Go get ‘em!

{source}

We’re just about halfway through this challenge. Are you about halfway to your goal? Me? I’m not. I have got to get better at scheduling a work out in to my day.

We had some wild weather this past weekend in the north west. Maybe you heard? It was great fun, but it was too easy to sit and watch movies with the kids instead of getting out and walking.

Leave a comment with your miles this week. Let us know what went well and what was hard. Good luck this week!

Call for Miles | Week 5

Sorry for the delay in posting. We’ve had some sad news in the family and my mind isn’t 100% clear because of it.

Photo: This is so true! No matter how slow it happens, never quit! Keep going!

How was your week? (Our week ended on Tuesday.)

I went to a boot camp for the first time in awhile. As I went to bed that night I was thinking about how I must have done enough moving around for the rest of day because I wasn’t feeling stiff at all.

Then I rolled over in my sleep at about 3.

My muscles screamed out in pain and by the time it was time for me to get out of bed I could barely move. I was sore from my shoulders to my ankles. It lasted about three days and then I was back to normal. And not quite so sore after class two. Thank goodness!

Leave a comment with your miles for the week.  Tell us what went well and what challenges you faced. Good luck this week!

Call for Miles | Week 3

Focus, you got this!

First things first, check your mileage on the sidebar to make sure I got everyone caught up to where they should be.

Now, how was week 3? I’ll admit: I’m struggling to get moving this time around. I’m not sure what it is. Part of it was probably being out of town and out of my routine. Hopefully this coming week will be better for me.

Leave a comment and let us know, not only your miles, but how your week was too. What went well? What did you struggle with?

Have a great week!

We are all wonder women!

{source}

I don’t think we have any men participating this round so I thought this picture would be fun to share. It’s true – no matter our shapes and sizes, we are all wonder women. :)

How did you week go? Any challenges? Any triumphs?

We’ve been dealing with emotional stuff with one child and preparing for out of town guests so between the two, I didn’t make much time for exercise. I did, however, meet my 10,000 step goal on my FitBit twice!

Share in the comments, along with your miles.

Please note that I am out of town for a couple of days and this weeks mileage wont be updated until Sunday. Thanks for your patience! If I haven’t added your week 1 mileage, and you commented, I have your numbers and will update soon.

How was your first week? Any challenges? Any triumphs?

My challenge was mental – it is hard to get out when the kids are all home. A triumph would be Saturdays walk – I’m a little slower than I was but not too far off from my goal of 5 miles in 1 hour, 15 minutes. I might be able to start some speed work sooner than I thought!

Leave a comment with your results and good luck this next week!

New Year, New Challenge!

No More ExcusesHappy 2014!

Are you ready to start another challenge?

A few things to keep in mind:

Our weeks start on Wednesday {today!} and end on Tuesday. Find a way to track your miles that works for you. Some people use Daily Mile, some people use good ol’ pen & paper, some people use an app on their phone. Find what works for you and stick with it.

Check the blog on Tuesday so you can report your miles. If you are worried you wont remember, feel free to subscribe via email. It will email you any posts on the evening they go up. It’s over there -----> on the sidebar.

Remember:

  • No rounding up! Push yourself and go just a bit farther. If you walk 3.25 miles, it counts as 3 miles.
  • 1 mile walking or running = 1 mile.
  • 15 minutes of yoga, biking, swimming, weights = 1 mile.

Will you do me a favor?

Will you tell me about your fitness goals for 2014? Leave a comment and let me know. We’ll be able to encourage each other if we know what your goal is. If you are going to work on something specific for this challenge, let me know that too. If you are going for something other than 100 miles, please leave a comment telling me that too.

For 2014, I want to run (jog) a 5k. I’ve never been a runner, but I feel like there might be a runner hiding inside of me and I am determined to find her. I will also be participating in the Portland to Coast Relay in August. It’s 130-ish mile relay walk from Portland, OR to Seaside, OR and every person on the team walks about 10-12 miles. I want to do 13-minute miles for my legs.

For this challenge, I want to get back to walking 5 miles in 1 hour and 15 minutes with out it feeling too hard. I’ve been too lazy the last month and a half so it might take some time. After that, I plan to add some jogging in and then some speed work for walking.

Most of all: Have fun with this challenge!
