Final Call for Miles | Round 3

Today is the last day of 2012, which means today is the last day of round 3 in this 100 Mile Challenge!

Congrats on making it to the end. It is so exciting for me to see people making their goals. It is equally exciting for me to see people that are continuing to try and not giving up. If you finished, feel free to take a badge (just right click and save):

Round 4 begins tomorrow and calls for miles will go up on Mondays for the next three months!

Round 4 | Begins Jan. 1

January 1 is just around the corner! I can’t believe that 2012 is coming to an end.

If you have “exercise” as a New Year’s Resolution, then this is the perfect challenge for you. This challenge will help you stay motivated to move.

Here’s how it works:

·        Each challenge runs for three months (Next up: Jan. 1-Mar. 31)
  •            Each mile you walk or run equals a mile in the challenge
  •           Every 15 minutes of other exercise equals one mile(biking, yoga, tennis, swimming, etc)
  •           There are NO half miles - push yourself to go that extra half mile or another seven minutes and count it as a mile. You can do it!

Each week, I will put out a call for miles and you will report how many miles you did that week.  I will add your name and miles to the sidebar.  Be sure to check back to make sure that my math is correct! Each week, I also hope to post some motivation - something to make us want to move, a favorite healthy recipe, etc.  Feel free to contact me (batnt99 at gmail.com) if you would like to do a guest post.

Join in and let’s move!

Leave a comment to let me know if you are interested in Round 4. Feel free to invite your friends to play along with us! The more the merrier.

Call for Miles | Week 12

Last week was a little rough for some of us. I hope this week was better. Tell me in the comments how you did.

Don’t forget, we have just ONE week left of round 3. There will not be a Call For Miles next Sunday. It will come next Tuesday instead. That means that this coming week, you have two extra days to meet your goal.

Round 4 will start next Wednesday (January 1). Let your friends know and invite them to play along!

I hope everyone is ready for Christmas. From my house to yours:

I can’t believe that we are almost to the end of round 3! How was your week?

I did not do as well as I hoped, but I believe that I can catch up. Maybe if I do it early, it will go better.

When do you exercise?

Let me know your miles this week.

Also, please, please check my math! I realized this week that I was off on one persons total by eleven miles. 11 miles! That’s a lot so please check for me now and then.

Have a great week everyone!

Call For Miles | Week 10

We have just over 3 weeks left in this round. Today, I wanted to give up on my goal. I had a bad week (exercise-wise). Then, while surfing the ‘net tonight, I saw this:

source

I realized that, while I may need to adjust my goal, I simply can not give up on it. Because giving up on it, means giving up on me.

So, in the next 21 days, my goal is 30 miles (2 miles a day, 5 days a week) which will be a total of 81. I’m going to round it down to 80…just to make it easy.

How was your week? Do you need to readjust? Are you doing just fine as it is? Are you ready for Christmas?!

Let me know in the comments.

Also, anyone thinking they are up for another go round starting January 1?

Call for Miles | Week 9

Motivation

How was your week? I hope it was good. I hope you were able to get all the things done that you wanted to do. And, I hope you were able to get some good sweat in.

I was on some medication this week that made me so dizzy and nauseus that I didn’t do much for about three days. I was still able to get a few workouts in but I am feeling like I might not reach my goal.

Leave a comment with your miles. Also, let us know what your goals for the week are.  Good luck!

Call for Miles | Week 8

This one makes me laugh. I never look pretty after a good workout – my face gets so red and my curly hair frizzes and sticks out from the sweat. It’s all good, though, it means I worked hard.

We’re more than halfway through Round 3. Are you halfway to your goal? I realized today that: I’m not. I’m going to have to step it up and push harder to get there. Especially with the busy holidays coming. We can do it though!

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving – ours was quiet and I missed being “home” with the family. It was nice to be with the ones I love so much though and I have much to be thankful for.

Leave a comment with your miles, goals, questions and comments. As always, check my math now and then.

Hey all!

How was your week? What are your goals for this?

I didn’t have a great week, but not a terrible week either. One good walk, and a great step class. This next week, I am planning to start running again. A friend of mine has been running everyday for awhile, and she started with two miles. So, I’m taking a page out of her book and am going to do two miles until I can run most of that two miles and then I will work my way up to there.

Anyone doing a Thanksgiving day run? I’ll be doing my 5k on my own in my neighborhood.

Happy Thanksgiving this week!

Call For Miles | Week 6

527666_3715514210759_36880283_n

Wow! Week 6. How was your week? I had a pretty good week but I discovered on a long walk yesterday that the blisters I got in August doing Portland to Coast have not yet healed and my feet hurt today. I guess I need some mole skin…has anyone ever used it?

I would really like to post here more than once a week but the days seem to be getting away from me. Please email me (batnt99@gmail.com) if you would like to guest post. You can tell us about your favorite work out, a favorite recipe, why you work out, etc.

Let me know your miles in the comments and go get ‘em this week!

We were out of town this week for a funeral. I took my work out clothes with grand plans of walking and working out, but the laziness took over and I didn’t get many mile in. How was week 5 for you?

It’s the end of week 4, which means we’ve been at this a month! Are you a third of the way to your goal? Do you need to push a little harder? Adjust your goal?

Let me know in the comments. Also, remember to check my math at times…it’s not my best subject!

I am not at home this weekend so there may be a delay in my getting the miles updated.

Today (Sunday) marks the end of week 3! How are you feeling three weeks in? How did you do?

I had a better week this week. I went to a couple work out classes at my church and did my step work out once.

Any goals for this week?

Call for Miles | Week 2

source

I saw this picture on Pinterest this week and I knew that I had to post it here. After all, having a goal to reach is what this challenge is about! You make your goal so that it works for you!

I want this to be a goal that challenges you, and pushes you, but I also want it to be a goal that is reachable. So, please do that. If you need it to be 50 miles for the three months, that’s great! If you need more and want to try for 200, that’s great! If 100 sounds like the right range, go for it!

--

So, how was week two? Let me know in the comments!

For me, it wasn’t great. The second week of the month is my busiest week – I have multiple meetings, plus time in classrooms, babysitting my nephew, and more and this week it equaled out to me not getting much exercise in. I’m hoping to change that next month.

Pumpkin Smoothie

Among the top few of my favorite things about the Autumn season is pumpkin. I love pumpkin! A lot of pumpkin choices really aren’t that good for us though. (Pumpkin pie anyone?) One fall treat that I can enjoy over and over again with out guilt is a pumpkin smoothie.

If you have followed my personal blog for a couple of years, you have probably seen this, but I thought I would share it here anyway.

Pumpkin is packed with good stuff – fiber, vitamins, a bit of protein, not many calories and very little fat!

11 19 10_3860-crop_thumb[9]:Pumpkin Smoothie:

1 to 1 1/2 cups water

1 cup pumpkin

5-6 ice cubes

Dash Cinnamon and or Pumpkin Pie Spice

1/2 package Sugar-Free, Fat-Free Instant Vanilla Pudding

Combine in blender and blend!

*You could use apple juice for additional flavor, or milk for a thicker, creamier version.

What is your favorite use for pumpkin?

If you have a favorite {healthy} recipe that you would like to share email me: batnt99 [at] gmail [dot] com.

Call for Miles | Week 1

I can hardly believe that we are at the end of the first week of Round 3! I am so excited that you are all going to participate in this challenge with me. It’s been so helpful for me over the last six months and I’m am excited to see my progress over the next three!

How was your first week? Let me know in the comments. Remember that this time around our weeks are different: we are tracking Monday through Sunday.

Also, please share if you want your goal to be something other than 100. Feel free to let your friends know if you think that they would be interested. It’s never too late to join in!

Round 3 Starts Today

Round 3 starts today! I can’t believe that’s been six months since I decided to try this. Thanks to those of you that have been here from the start, and welcome to those of you that may be joining us for the first time.

My goal for this time around is to actually get to my goal (so disappointed to be a few miles short in Round TWO), and I really want to get serious about running. My dad is a runner and has been forever. My sister (Hi, Stacy!) took up running a few years ago and now does marathons. I figure that means that there is a runner inside of me somewhere. I’m on a mission to find her.

Not that I see myself running marathons. But going our for a three mile run everyday? That’s the kind of runner I want to be. Any advice for me?

What are your goals for round 3? Are you hoping to try some new exercises? To get faster miles? Are you hoping to drink more water while you work out? Are you hoping to get even more miles than last time?

Tell me in the comments and maybe we’ll get some good ideas and motivation from each other.

Round TWO | Final Call for Miles

Source

Congrats! You are at the end of round TWO! How did you do?

I’ll be honest – summer was hard for me. I don’t know why, but it was and I didn’t push enough once school started to reach my goal. I’m disappointed to report that I am a few miles short of my goal.

But! That’s okay. Because: Now I know that I need to push myself a little harder to make it to my goal. And, I will get my goal for round 3.

So, me let know how you did this week in the comments. Let me know what you think of the challenge over-all. And, be sure to take a badge to show off that you did it!

It’s time to sign up to participate in Round 3 of the 100 Miles in 3 Months Challenge. I am SO excited to be getting ready to start again. This really keeps me motivated to work out each week and I hope that is what it does for you too.

First of all, go here and read what this challenge is all about.

Then, go read through the FAQ. (Be sure to let me know if I didn’t cover something you have a question about.)

And, finally, leave a comment below if you are interested in joining. We will begin this challenge on Monday, October 1 and it will end on Monday, December 31.

Call for Miles | Week 12

healthy-is-the-way-to-go.tumblr.com

I saw this picture online and I thought about how true it is. When I started working out regularly, I was so tired that this wasn’t true but after a couple of months?  Totally true. I found that I was happier and had more energy, and that is why I do this.

One week left of Round TWO! The last call for miles will go up next Sunday. (Round 3 will start on Monday. I’ll be putting up a call for participation this week. Please let me know on that post if you are interested in playing along again. Also, spread the word and invite your friends.)

How are you feeling as we near the end of this round? Are you getting close? Or are you like me, and will be scrambling to get to your goal this week?

Call for Miles | Week 9

This week was a doozy for me… the kids are headed back to school Tuesday so we were busy preparing for that and then we went camping for the long weekend. Such a good time.

I will say, though, that I am ready for school to start and for me to be back in a regular routine for exercise. Hopefully, I’ll meet my 100 mile goal!

How was your week? Let me know in the comments and go get them this week!

Edited to Add: I finally posted about Portland to Coast. Click here.

Call for Miles | Week 8

Ah! I woke up this morning and realized that I didn’t do a call for miles on Saturday. I got home from the Portland to Coast Relay at about 5:00pm, had dinner and hung out the family for a few hours before I crashed for twelve hours of straight sleep.

I’m still tired but I don’t have muscle soreness. I did get some blisters on the bottoms of my feet from not being very prepared for the gravel walk I had, so my feet hurt, but other than that I’m good. The relay was great fun. Hopefully I’ll get the time to post about it in the next day or two. I’ll share the link next week.

Anyhow – week 8 ended on Saturday, so let me know how you did last week and good luck with the rest of this week!

motivation

How was your week? We’ve had record heat in my little part of Oregon and it made me very lazy. Not good.

Next week will be a big one for me though, and I hope I hear that whisper of ‘can’ as I’m tackling a seven mile leg of Portland to Coast – it’s my fourth year participating and I’m so excited!

Let me know your miles for week 7, and good luck next week!

Call for Miles | Week 6

youcanthrow

Stacy told me this quote when I asked for mantras a couple of weeks ago and it’s a good one. I have a tendency to throw in the towel too often, but from now on I think I’ll try to wipe the sweat instead.

We’re about half way through round TWO. Can you believe it? I can’t! I think it’s been hard for most of us to get miles in this summer – kids home, family vacations, injuries, heat -- but I am inspired each week when I put out a call and you all reply with your miles. Whether it’s a lot of a little it inspires me to get out a little bit more. So thank you!

Let me know how many miles you got, and then go out there and use a towel!

Last week, I asked what some of your “mantras” are and I enjoyed reading them. I thought about this one this week because that is what I needed to tell myself: Keep going. Just keep going! If we do, we get to our goals eventually. Thanks for the inspiration, Timber. :)

How was your week? I hope it was great!

Let us know your miles in the comments, and good luck next week! Don’t let the heat get to you.

Round TWO!

Untitled-1

With one week left in our March through June challenge, it’s time to start thinking about Round TWO! We’ll follow the same pattern as we did in round one. So! If you’ve done it before, you know what to expect. If you haven’t, it’s easy! Join us!

Round TWO of our 100 Mile Challenge will start on Sunday, July 1 and end on Sunday, September 30.

For Round TWO, I am hoping to do a weekly spotlight of a participant. If you are interested in being highlighted (or if you definitely don’t want to), let me know!

Now, the nitty-gritty:

Here’s how it works:

· Each challenge runs for three months and you decide what your goal is. I personally aim for 100 miles in the three months, but we had some aim higher (400!) and some that aim lower. Any number is okay! Just make sure to push yourself.

· Each mile you walk or run equals a mile in the challenge.

· Every 15 minutes you spend doing other exercise (biking, yoga, tennis, swimming, etc) counts as one mile in the challenge

· There are NO half miles - push yourself to go that extra half mile or another seven minutes and count it as a mile. You can do it!

Each week (on Saturday afternoon), I will put out a call for miles and you will report in the comments how many miles you did that week. (No, you don’t have to be a blogger to participate – you can comment anonymously, just make sure to leave your name!) I will add your name and miles to the sidebar. Be sure to check back to make sure that my math is correct!

Please try to leave your miles Saturday evening or Sunday morning. I understand that things come up but it’s easier for me if most of the comments are left with in a day or two.

Here are some FAQ’s.

As always, feel free to contact me (email on sidebar) if you have any questions.

Anyone is invited to participate so invite your friends! Share it on Facebook. Email your grandma. :)

Leave a comment and let me know if you are interested in joining in! It’s great motivation to get moving, I promise!

Call for Miles | Week 11

Sorry for the late call for miles!

My daughter was running in our state’s Junior Olympics yesterday. We thought she might have to run today as well so we got a hotel and relaxed. She ended up not having to run, so we spent last night and this morning playing in the hotel’s pool.

She did well in her events – and qualified for the regional championship for the 400 meter.

Since it’s Father’s Day, I have to wish a happy father’s day to my dad (Jack) who probably met his goal this week. Also, a happy father’s day to my husband (Bryan) – I am so glad to be on this parenting journey with you!

Leave a comment with your miles, and we’ll see you next week! Just two weeks left!

Call for Miles | Week 10

I spent last night on a hard floor next to a shark tank for my daughter’s aquarium field trip. When I got home, it was time to get ready for the final pack meeting of the year for my Cub Scouts. The lack of sleep made me totally forget about doing a call for miles. Sorry for the delay!

First, everyone give a shout-out to Stacy. She completed a marathon today in 4:22.  Way to go!

Now, leave you number for the week and go get ‘em for this week!

Call for Miles | Week 9

57420963968459377_ZPzmTG4H_c

I can’t believe that it is June already! Just four weeks left of this challenge! How are you feeling about your goal? I am right on track to get to 100 in the next couple of weeks, and I am feeling strong.

I went walking this morning with some girls from my Portland to Coast team, and we did just over five miles. When we were done, I felt like I could keep going and I’m not totally worn out today so I must be getting stronger. A friend on that route, was feeling tired and slow so I posted the above picture (found here) with hopes that it will make her realize that she is doing just fine. You are doing just fine. Just keep going, and you’ll get there too.

Good luck in this last few weeks! Let me know how many miles. Also, let me know if you are interested in doing another challenge (July-September).

And, congrats go to Ruth as well – she ran a 6.7 mile race last Saturday, and took first place in her age group. You rock!

How did this week go? Did you get the miles you hoped for?

I was WAY too busy this week (must learn to say NO), but with walking the kids to school I managed to get in some good mileage.

Hey, everyone!

It’s the last day of week 5. How did you do this week?

I had a good week – a couple of things factored in that. One is that May if Oregon Walk, Bike and Roll to School month so the kids have been eager to earn points for their classes by walking. Going back and forth two times a day gives me two miles! The second is that today was a race that I’ve done four times now – it’s a 6.7 mile course that winds through my little town. It’s a beautiful course. We go past six (I think) waterfalls. I wasn’t able to beat my time from last year but I was pretty close and I’m not sore tonight so I’m feeling pretty good about it.

Leave a comment telling me your miles for the week!

Call for Miles | Week 4

Wow!  Today is the end of four weeks! How is it going? How was your week?

Mine was busy (again) and it shows in my miles (again). My husband was out of town for four days and the kids had a million things going on. How do you make sure to get your miles in when life gets busy?

Leave a comment to let me know how many miles you got this week! Also, if you have any friends playing along, remind them if they haven’t commented in awhile. (Also – please double check that I am doing the math correctly.)

Call for Miles | Week 3

Happy Saturday!

How was your week?  I thought that my week was going to be easy but it filled up fast!  I was able to get some good miles in though, and I feel good about that.

Today, I spent the day at my kid’s first USATF meet of the season and we had a great day for it – 72 degrees and not a cloud in the sky, which is rare for April in Oregon!

Leave a comment with your miles and good luck in week four!

Thoughts After Two Weeks

I removed people from our participant list that haven’t reported any miles in.  If you have a friend that had wanted to participate, tell them that it’s not too late!  I can easily add them in and they can still get to 100 miles by the end of June.  When I did my first challenge, I joined in about three weeks in and still managed to get to 100.

---

There are several of you that get a lot of miles each.  A lot, a lot.  Like so many, I don’t know how you do anything but exercise, a lot.  Anyway, those of you that are getting 15+ miles a week should consider making your goal higher.

I don’t know if you have noticed Stacy over there…she is my sister and she is a marathon runner.  Her goal for the three months is 400 miles. If you would like to make your goal higher, just leave a comment with how many miles you think you can do by the end of June.

Of course, a goal of 100 miles is great.  After all, that’s my goal!

---

Also, Heather H. has made a spreadsheet to log her miles and she is willing to share it.  Maybe head to her blog and leave a comment and she can email it to you.  You can also leave your email address here and I’ll get it to her.  Her spreadsheet also tracks measurements and weight for a little extra incentive.  Thanks, Heather!

Call for Miles | Week 2

Hey everyone, just a quick note to remind you to submit your miles today.

I hope you had a good week!  We were busy and it shows in my miles – much less than last week.  Be sure to check back tomorrow and double-check my math!

Enjoy your weekend!

Let me know in the comments how many miles you did this week and I’ll work on updating on the sidebar by Sunday night.

Q&A

Will there be a schedule so we know how many miles to go each week or day or are we just going to report what we've done? April 1 is a Sunday, so our weeks will run from Sunday to Saturday. I’ll put up a call for miles on Saturday morning and you will report in. I hope to have all the miles updated on Sunday afternoon (feel free to check back to correct my math).

As far as a schedule, I don’t have one but there are 13 weeks in our challenge so you will need to get about 8 miles a week on average. In the past, for me, some weeks have been much lower than this and other weeks have been higher.

Can I link to this page?  Yes!  You are welcome to link to this page and invite others to join in.

So if we bike, we count 15 min as a mile, not actual mileage right?  Yes, you are right.  Walking and running counts mile for mile – everything else counts as fifteen minutes for one mile.  This includes yoga, weight-lifting, swimming, biking, etc.

Which program do you use to calculate mileage for walks? I personally use the Sports Tracker App on my phone.  I have also used this site to plan routes. Heather uses Cardio Trainer.  My good friend, Julie A., uses Daily Mile to record her miles.  I have an account there as well – it’s kind of like Facebook for athletes.  You can connect with friends and can leave comments, encouragement and advice.

Can I count half miles?  No.  The goal of this is to push yourself to do a little bit more.  If you find yourself walking two and a half miles, push yourself to go that extra half mile so you can count it for three.  Otherwise, round down and count it as two.  Of course, I am not the mile police, but be honest.  If you do two and a half miles on Monday and two and half miles on Tuesday, count it as four, not five.  You can do it!

If you have any other questions, let me know and I’ll answer!  I’m so excited to do this with all of you!

Any Questions?

I have had a few questions so I thought I would do a post answering any questions you might have.  Leave me any questions in the comments and I’ll get them answered tomorrow morning!

April Challenge

I find that I am more accountable for what I do for exercise when I have to report to someone.  It motivates me to get moving!  A couple of years ago I participated in a 100 Mile Challenge and I loved it.  Something about it pushed me and made me want to go just a little bit farther.  That first challenge, I sprained my ankle shortly after joining and I had to really push the last few weeks to get to 100 miles – but I did it, and it felt really good.
The blog that I used to participate with stopped doing challenges so I hosted a couple through e-mail with friends that were interested and I enjoyed it.  It was a lot of work that way though so I stopped doing it.

Recently, I tried another challenge where we were supposed to keep track of working out as well as other things and I found that it was too much for me to keep track of.
So, I decided to start another 100 Mile Challenge to motivate me to move and maybe to help get you up off the couch too.  This time I decided to make a blog so it is easy for everyone to participate!

Here’s how it works:

·         Each challenge runs for three months (April 1 to June 30)

      ·         Each mile you walk or run equals a mile in the challenge

      ·         Every 15 minutes you spend doing other exercise (biking, yoga, tennis, swimming, etc) counts as one mile in the challenge

      ·         There are NO half miles - push yourself to go that extra half mile or another seven minutes and count it as a mile. You can do it!

Each week, I will put out a call for miles and you will report in the comments how many miles you did that week.  (No, you don’t have to be a blogger to participate – you can comment anonymously, just make sure to leave your name!)   I will add your name and miles to the sidebar.  Be sure to check back to make sure that my math is correct!

Each week, I also hope to post some motivation - something to make us want to move, a favorite healthy recipe, etc.

Let me know if you’re interested and plan on starting with us on April 1, 2012!
